New York Mayor’s turn to go to Mar-a-Lago

After Justin Trudeau, Mark Zuckerberg and all the other insecure figures who try to mollify Donald Trump, it will be the turn of the mayor of New York, the Democratic bastion par excellence, to go to Mar-a-Lago on Friday to kiss the ring of the president-elect, so to speak. He will not be the first Democrat to make this pilgrimage, it should be noted, the Democratic senator from Pennsylvania John Fetterman having preceded him by a few days.

In an email to New York TimesEric Adams’ spokesperson described the reason for this visit, which will come just four days before Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, as follows: “Mayor Adams has clearly expressed his desire to work with President-elect Trump and his incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers – and this partnership with the federal government is essential to New York City’s success.”

Adams has already met with the likely future Secretary of Homeland Security, Thomas Homan, to discuss with him the mass expulsions wanted by Trump. He refused to criticize Trump during the presidential campaign and waited as long as possible to admit that he had voted for Kamala Harris.

Some evil tongues suspect him of wanting to get into Trump’s good graces to obtain a presidential pardon. Last September, the mayor of New York was indicted on five counts of corruption. He attributed the federal investigation to which he is the subject – and which could result in other charges – to the criticism he has leveled at the Biden administration regarding its management of the southern border.

Trump has sympathized with him several times since. “We have been persecuted, Eric,” he said in late October during a speech in New York that Adams attended.

A month later, Trump said he was open to the idea of pardoning Adams, whose approval rating is at an all-time low in New York.
