After months of speculation and sneak peeks under camouflage, the new Tesla Model Y Juniper has finally shown its face.
The most striking element is undoubtedly this impressive LED strip which crosses the front, creating a distinctive and modern lighting signature, which takes up the great looks of the Cybertruck and the Cybercab. The front has been completely redesigned, with tighter lines and a hood that seems to have been redesigned to optimize aerodynamics.
The vehicle’s sides now feature more pronounced curves, while the roofline retains that signature Model Y coupe profile, but with a more refined execution. The rear of the vehicle also seems to have benefited from special treatment, with redesigned lights, a central strip and a more sculptural shield.
Winter performance put to the test
The captured images show us the Model Y Juniper in its element, undergoing winter testing on what appears to be a frozen lake. This test session is not surprising: it allows Tesla engineers to refine the traction control systems and torque distribution on slippery surfaces.
The photos clearly show the vehicle performing dynamic maneuvers, kicking up snow and ice, suggesting extensive testing of the stability control system.
The position of the wheels and the general attitude of the vehicle in these photos suggest that Tesla has probably reworked the suspension settings, possibly to offer a better compromise between comfort and handling. In any case, this is what was done on the new Tesla Model 3.
To go further
The arrival of the new Tesla Model Y would be imminent: here is everything we know about it
Careful observers will also note the presence of visible sensors and testing equipment on the vehicle.
Last summer, a prototype of the one called Model Y Juniper had already been seen, still very heavily camouflaged, during road tests in the United States.
Since then, radio silence. But a few days ago, rumors suggested that production would start in January at the Gigafactory in Shanghai, China.
