The British royal family has recently been grieving the loss of a loved one. Indeed, Edward Pettifer, aged 31, is among the victims of the attack which hit the city of New during the night of New Year's Eve in the United States. As a reminder, a former soldier named Shamsud-Din Jabbar, aged 42, is suspected of having driven into the crowd in the streets of New Orleans with a white pick-up. He killed no less than 15 people in his path, including Edward Pettifer, before being shot dead following an exchange of gunfire with the local police. A few days after this tragedy, Prince William broke the silence.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pettifer family and to all those innocent people who have been tragically affected by this horrific attack“, declared the Prince of Wales, in order to pay tribute to Edward Pettifer. In fact, the deceased was the stepson of Alexandra Pettifer, better known as Tiggy Legge-Bourke. This woman was the nanny of Princes William and Harry when they were children, between 1993 and 1999. The cause of death of Edward Pettifer was confirmed by local authorities. The deceased was in fact a victim of “blunt object injuries” during the Shamsud-Din Jabbar attack.

Tiggy Legge-Bourke's stepson was visiting Louisiana with one of his friends when he was fatally targeted by the former soldier. Heartbroken by this news, his family paid him a moving tribute. His relatives thus indicated that they were “devastated“by his death. Edward Pettifer was described as “a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend to so many“. “We will miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost a family member following this terrible attack.“, also underlined his family in a press release. As a reminder, princes Harry and William consider Edward Pettifer's mother-in-law as their “second mother“. For his part, the king Charles III would be deeply saddened by the death brutal of Tiggy Legge-Bourke's stepson.
