A second plane from the national airline “Air Congo”, a Boeing 737-800, was received on Sunday December 15 at N’djili international airport in Kinshasa, coming from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
« This evening, we came to receive a 2nd Air Congo plane which will soon operate with the registration of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the 9S. We received this plane with warmth and with the water jet. The reception of planes will continue until reaching 8 planes, and in a year, we will have 6 planes” Weldegeorgis Mesfin Biru, general director of Air Congo, told ACP.
The first plane of the new airline Air Congo, a Boeing 737-800, landed in Kinshasa last Saturday November 30.
The imminent launch of this company was mentioned during the 14th session of the Council of Ministers, on September 20. On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Jean-Pierre Bemba, announced that discussions on the establishment of this company had resumed. He also specified the terms of the partnership:
“The shares of the two shareholders, the DRC and the Ethiopian Airlines group, are respectively 51% and 49%, for a total amount of 40 million USD. »
This partnership aims to provide the DRC with an airline capable of meeting domestic and international air transport needs, while benefiting from the expertise of Ethiopian Airlines, one of the leaders in the sector in Africa.
The Government also announced its ambition to rapidly expand the Air Congo fleet. Four additional aircraft should be acquired within six months, around June 2025.
