A father was arrested Wednesday for strangling and burning his four children in the Algerian town of Ghardaïa, a terrible tragedy that shook public opinion.
The facts date back to Tuesday when the suspect, identified under the initials KA, took the excuse of a car ride with his children aged 4, 5 and 11-year-old twins from a first marriage, according to Algerian media.
Arriving near an isolated area of Oued Nechou in the suburb of Ghardaïa, 600 km south of Algiers, the suspect who had bought 5 liters of gasoline and a lighter along the way took action by strangling his children before dousing them with gasoline and burning their bodies.
After his abominable act, the father abandoned his vehicle and threw away his cell phone to join his second wife in Algiers to whom he told his crime, reported the public prosecutor in a press conference, according to the Arabic-language newspaper “El Khabar.
His wife alerted the neighborhood gendarmes who in turn informed their colleagues in Ghardaïa who went to the scene of the tragedy where the “four charred corpses of children” were discovered near a drain under construction.
Arrested, the suspect who confessed to his quadruple crime by trying to explain his action by “pressure” was placed under arrest warrant and charged with “premeditated homicide against ascendants, torture and barbaric acts”, added “El Khabar.
