Defeated in June in his northern constituency, the former MP judged that the alliance with Jean-Luc Mélenchon was “crippling and caused fear” in his territory.
The national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, spoke on LCI on Sunday in favor of left-wing alliances with variable geometry for the next legislative elections. “We call that, to win in the legislative elections, we can build everywhere, throughout the territory, in all constituencies, the best candidates for unity with left-wing and environmentalist forces, but corresponding to the realities of a territory”affirmed Fabien Roussel, distancing himself from the alliance of the New Popular Front (NFP) established in 2024, and with the Nupes of 2022.
“Myself, if I was beaten in my constituency, it is because I made an alliance with the Insoumis, Mr. Mélenchon, and that in a territory like mine, it is prohibitive and it is scary. And this is the reason why, if tomorrow I had to represent myself in this constituency, I would not do so with the Insoumis, but perhaps with the support of other left-wing forces”said the man who failed to get re-elected in the North during the early legislative elections.
“Gathering process”
“When I see that Jean-Luc Mélenchon is a success in certain places, well let them vote for Jean-Luc Mélenchon and the candidates who represent him. But where it is scary, avoid using it”he added. The National Conference of the PCF adopted on Saturday with 79% of voters a roadmap advocating for the legislative elections a “gathering process” who must “overcome the obstacles within the New Popular Front coalition which prevent the left from being in the majority”.
