Mme Pelosi, 84, is “recovering well,” reassured Ian Krager, spokesperson for the Californian Democrat, in a press release.
The politician thanked the staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and Luxembourg Hospital, where she was also treated, for “their excellent care and kindness.”
She was in Europe with a bipartisan congressional delegation to mark the 80e anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.
Mme Pelosi tripped and fell at an event and fractured her hip, according to people with knowledge of her injury who were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Among those on the trip was Rep. Michael McCaul, Republican of Texas, who posted on social media Friday that he was “praying for a speedy recovery” for Mr.me Pelosi. The two elected officials were photographed hand in hand during a group portrait that day at the United States Embassy in Luxembourg.
Mme Pelosi was first elected in 1987. She served as Speaker of the House of Representatives twice, resigned as leader two years ago, but remained in Congress and was re-elected to represent her district from San Francisco in November.
