Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s personal attorney has already pressured the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to revoke approval of the polio (polio) vaccine, according to ABC News.
After the election of President Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK) was appointed head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
RFK’s lawyer, M.e Aaron Siri, filed a petition in 2022, on behalf of his client, against the polio vaccine. He called for extended testing before offering the vaccine to children.
“The petitioner requests that the FDA withdraw or suspend approval of the [vaccin contre la polio] for babies and children,” he wrote.
The polio vaccine available in the United States is recommended for children. Three doses provide at least 99% protection against serious illness, including paralysis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Health Canada says the disease is preventable through vaccination. Polio has not been eliminated in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
“It is spread from person to person and through contaminated food and water. Polio can attack the central nervous system and destroy the nerve cells that make muscles work, which can lead to paralysis and death,” Health Canada wrote on its website.
“Polio mainly affects children under five; However, infection and paralysis can occur in people of all ages who are not immune,” the federal agency said.
Me Aaron Siri has also reportedly previously opposed the hepatitis B vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine.
Recall that 77 Nobel Prize winners sent an open letter to American senators on December 9 to express their opposition to Donald Trump’s nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Department of Health, because of his “lack of experience” and his anti-vaccine positions.
