“I’m in great shape!” In a video which shows him walking and smiling in the hospital, Brazilian President Lula, 79, tried, Friday October 13, to reassure about his state of health after his operation for a hemorrhage near the brain. On Tuesday, the announcement of the head of state's emergency surgical operation, linked to a domestic accident that occurred in October, took all of Brazil by surprise, as he arrives in the middle of his mandate and two years of the 2026 presidential election.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was released from intensive care on Friday, but he remains under surveillance until he is released from the Syrian-Lebanese hospital in Sao Paulo, scheduled for early next week. The first images of him after this operation show him in jogging pants, sneakers and a blue t-shirt, strolling down a hospital corridor joking alongside neurosurgeon Marcos Stavale. A long bandage covers the top of his head. According to the latest medical bulletin published by the prestigious hospital in the economic capital Sao Paulo, the left-wing president has been there since Friday “in semi-intensive care”.

Very present in presidential communication, his wife Rosangela da Silva, known as “Janja”, who remained at his bedside, published on Instagram two photos of the couple smiling in the hospital. “I am sure that this image has brought peace to all those who worry and have affection for the president”said the First Lady in the message accompanying the images.
