After a call for a republican front, the National Rally finally came in third place in the National Assembly.

The party’s voters, which nevertheless regained several dozen seats compared to 2022, are feeling the blow.

This is the case in Vire, in Calvados, where the former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne came out on top in the votes under the “Ensemble” label.

2024 legislative elections

The Republican Front responded. To the great displeasure, in some places, of the National Rally. In Vire (Calvados), for example, Elisabeth Borne won against the RN candidate. “It’s an unnatural alliance. I didn’t think that the transfer of votes would happen on Borne. I thought that the people on the left would have a hard time swallowing the pension reform.”laments a voter on TF1. “It smells like a hack! I think that each party has its own ideas, everyone votes for their own party!”one voter is offended.

Left-wing voters who voted without rancor

Left-wing voters did not hesitate. They voted for the former Prime Minister, despite painful memories. “It was not an easy election given the history of Mrs. Borne who pushed through retirement… Personally, I demonstrated every Thursday!”explains a local resident. Others mention the multiple appeals to Article 49.3, while qualifying the importance of the Republican pact. The blockade instructions were generally very closely followed at the national level, but also at the local level. Party officials also recognize a casting problem for many ghost candidates, or those making dubious or even racist remarks. “We had maybe ten people who shouldn’t have been there, that’s for sure. We’ll look at it and the French will realize.”justified Louis Aliot in front of Adrien Gindre in “Bonjour! La Matinale TF1” this Monday.

The announcement of the results dashed in a few seconds the hopes of the activists to see Jordan Bardella at Matignon. In order not to lose face, the RN prefers to hold on to its jump from 88 to 143 deputies with its allies for this new legislature, and aim for the next move. “The tide is rising. It has not risen high enough this time, but it continues to rise and therefore our victory is really only delayed.”said Marine Le Pen, re-elected RN MP for Pas-de-Calais. The National Rally will also be able to count on a financial windfall: the 8.7 million votes collected this Sunday will bring in at least 15 million euros in public funding each year.
