The PTB is scary. Are you aware of this?
Yes and no. There is no reason to be afraid of us. When we managed Zelzate with Vooruit for six years, the debt went from 900 euros per inhabitant in 2018 to 400 euros in 2024. In terms of municipal finances, I want to say that it is rather right-wing management which is scary. It is the liberals who are increasing the deficits of the federal state and the municipalities. They give so many gifts to the rich that there are huge holes in the finances.
There are also fears linked to authoritarian tendencies…
When I see the interventionism of other party presidents, the PTB presents a much more democratic face. I disagree with the idea that we are dangerous. Class struggle exists in society. I understand that the super rich or the thinkers who defend them say that a balance of power is establishing itself, a balance of power which will lead to greater taxation on the great fortunes in the years to come. It’s fair game. That the MR tries to distill the fear of red into our society is logical. They are panicking because they were hoping to have a boulevard in front of them.
Nabil Boukili: “I would like us to stop this fable about the PTB and public finances”
Alexia Bertrand (Open VLD) mentioned in The Free the class racism of the PTB. Are you racist towards Alexia Bertrand?
It’s still crazy coming from someone whose family is one of the richest in Belgium. Racism is inequality. We are anti-racist, we fight for equality. Intellectually, it’s laughable. We do not want to solve problems with violence, but with laws. And it’s not a matter of people, it’s a matter of inequality between social classes. We do not advocate violence.

What is still Maoist in the PTB?
The PTB hasn’t been there for a long time. The PTB is a Marxist party. We want revolutions that change capitalist societies into socialist societies. That is to say, companies which will have put an end to private ownership of the major means of production – and I am talking about very large multinationals. These large groups in fact organize their profits to the detriment of humanity. We see how Google, Musk, Facebook, etc. appropriate democratic power in our societies. We consider, for example, in the energy sector that Engie-Electrabel cannot guarantee security of supply at correct prices. So yes, certain sectors must return to public ownership. I am obviously not targeting SMEs and VSEs which are also under the domination of multinationals like those who work as subcontractors for Audi in Forest for example. We are obviously not asking to apply what was done in the name of Marxism, in the USSR or in North Korea.
