A British woman living in the county of Cheshire, near Liverpool, was sentenced to seven years in prison for mistreating her daughter, born in March 2020. According to the Guardianthe little girl never came out of the sofa drawer in which her mother kept her locked for three years.
The accused had given birth clandestinely in the bathtub at home and had never declared the birth, either to the authorities or to the father of the child. Immediately after birth, the baby, a girl, was placed by her mother in the drawer under her bed. The defendant then continued her life, going to work and taking care of her other children while the baby remained alone in the drawer without seeing the light of day. She only took care of the baby, feeding her Weetabix with a syringe and changing her diaper.
He discovers the horror by opening the drawer
It was finally after three years of this inhumane treatment that the horror came to light. A mother’s lover heard a baby crying in the bedroom while he was using the toilet upstairs in the house. Opening the drawer, he discovered the horror and immediately contacted the police.
The little girl was immediately taken into care by social services. She had a hare lip, suffered from dehydration, could neither walk nor crawl and was severely stunted. Expert reports established that the three-year-old girl had development equivalent to a 10-month-old baby.
According to the Guardian, at the hearing, the judge denounced behavior “that defies belief”, by depriving this “little girl of any love, any attention or interaction with others”. The “unimaginable wickedness of the mother” was punished by a seven-year prison sentence.
