Said Saddiki, professor of international relations at Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, did not mince his words regarding the “Rif Day” organized in Algiers on November 23. He described the event as “absurd staging” based on empty speeches and speakers sorely lacking in objectivity.
According to him, Algeria’s attempt to present marginal individuals as legitimate representatives of the Moroccan Rif is a real farce. These people, used for political purposes, are doomed to disappear from the scene once their role is over, thus becoming the puppets of those who manipulate them.

Professor Saddiki underlines Algeria’s failure to find influential figures from the Rif to participate in this propaganda operation. The use of unrepresentative individuals demonstrates, according to him, the isolation of this initiative and its total lack of popular support.
Conversely, the professor recalls that the inhabitants of the Rif, in Morocco and abroad, remain deeply attached to their country. Despite the difficulties and misunderstandings, they actively participate in the construction of Morocco, following in the lineage of their ancestors who fought in defense of the nation.
The organization of this “Rif Day”, with the desire to create a fictitious entity comparable to the “Polisario”, is perceived by the Moroccan expert as a hostile act on the part of Algeria. However, he calls on Morocco not to give in to the temptation to support separatist movements in Algeria.
Said Saddiki concludes by affirming that a united, stable and democratic neighboring country would be beneficial not only for Morocco, but also for the entire region.
