Step by step, the principle of specific taxation for billionaires is gaining ground in the debate. Meeting at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, the heads of state validated the commitments made last spring by their respective finance ministers. « With full respect for fiscal sovereignty, we will seek to engage cooperatively to ensure that very wealthy individuals are effectively taxed »affirmed the leaders in their joint press release. The initiative has been pushed for months by Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the President of the Republic of Brazil, at the head of the G20 this year. « The super-rich pay proportionally much less tax than the working class »denounced the former trade unionist again this summer.
