France: Etoile walked 82 days before finally being found

Étoile’s owner will finally be able to breathe: his dog, missing since April 1, was found on Saturday. In 82 days on the run, this female from the Pyrenees traveled more than 200 km before being located, a journey all the more astonishing given that she suffers from epilepsy. The 7-year-old dog left from Sousceyrac, in the Lot department (F), and was picked up in Pont-du-Château, in Puy-de-Dôme. Between the two, she crossed Cantal again.

After long weeks of fruitless research, Étoile’s owner contacted a Facebook page, Fab Animal Protection, dedicated to lost or injured animals. It was a good thing for him: in two days, subscribers to this page had sent numerous reports claiming to have seen the dog, reports “La Montagne”. This is how Fabien, the leader of this community, jumped in his truck to go and explore the area where Étoile had last been spotted.

When he finally saw the dog, he still had to be patient before he could approach her and convince her to enter, by luring her with some kibble, into a fenced property. Fabien then received help from the Clermont-Ferrand pound to succeed in catching Étoile on Saturday, shortly after midnight. The dog, definitely safe, only had to wait for her master to arrive. The reunion, which we imagine to be joyful, was planned for this Monday.

We don’t know how the dog managed to feed herself and, above all, avoid the pitfalls of road traffic, throughout her incredible journey. The fact remains that, even if she was very scared at the time she was found, Étoile seemed in fairly good health when she was found.
