Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to US President-elect Donald Trump about “the Iranian threat” in the third meeting between the two men in a few days, according to his services.
“In recent days, I have spoken three times with President-elect Donald Trump […] We see the Iranian threat in all its aspects with one eye,” Netanyahu said during the weekly cabinet meeting, according to a statement from his office.
Netanyahu also claimed to have discussed with Trump the “great opportunities available to Israel in the area of peace and its expansion.”
These conversations between the two men are “intended to further strengthen the strong alliance between Israel and the United States,” the statement said.
The United States is Israel’s main ally engaged in a military offensive against Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, two Islamist movements supported by Iran.
During his previous term, Mr. Trump made numerous gestures in favor of Israel, moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and, with the Abraham Accords , contributing to the normalization of ties between Israel and several Arab countries.
