In a significant rhetorical escalation, Iran toughened its tone this Saturday regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and pro-Iranian movements. Through its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Tehran warns of a possible extension of the conflict well beyond the current borders.

“The world must know that if the war spreads, its harmful effects will not be limited only to the Middle East region,” warned the head of Iranian diplomacy during an intervention on state television, evoking a possible spread of “insecurity and instability” to “very distant” regions.

This statement comes in a particularly tense context, as the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza enters its 400th day. Iran, which actively supports Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, sees its network of regional allies increasingly involved in hostilities.

These Iranian threats echo international fears of an extension of the conflict, while the United States maintains a reinforced military presence in the region to deter any direct involvement by Iran. Several incidents in the Red Sea, where the Houthis of Yemen, also supported by Iran, have increased attacks against commercial ships, already demonstrate this geographical extension of tensions.
