UHundreds of former senators, other members of Congress, governors, senior military officials and White House officials, both Democrats and Republicans, called in a joint statement for a “peaceful transition of power” to the outcome of Tuesday’s US presidential elections.
“We call on all Americans not only to vote but also to protect the electoral system and the Constitution which guarantees our freedom,” say the signatories of this declaration published in various media.
A peaceful transfer of power is essential for stability, trust in institutions and to guarantee the international status and diplomatic relations of the United States, further emphasizes the declaration.
During the previous election, which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden, Donald Trump refused to acknowledge his defeat. His supporters went so far as to invade the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in order to prevent the validation of the election of Joe Biden.
