Western weapons against Russia: NATO “provokes” Ukraine to prolong the conflict, according to the Kremlin

“NATO member countries, especially the United States and other European capitals, have started a new cycle of escalation in recent days and weeks,” denounced the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov.

“They are provoking Ukraine by any means possible in order to continue this senseless war,” he told reporters at his daily briefing.

However, according to Mr. Peskov, “this will ultimately be to the detriment of countries that have taken the path of escalation.”

In recent weeks, the debate on the use or not on Russian territory of some of the weapons supplied to kyiv by the West, in this case long-range missiles, has agitated the capitals of the Alliance countries.

Its secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, declared himself in favor of it, but several countries supporting Ukraine are much more reluctant, such as Germany, fearing the possibility of a direct conflict with Moscow.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday, during a trip to Germany, that kyiv’s allies should allow the Ukrainian army to “neutralize” the military bases from which Russia fires its missiles.

An informal meeting of foreign ministers from NATO member countries is planned for Thursday and Friday, and Paris intends to take advantage of it to change the minds of the most reluctant countries.

If the United States has repeatedly opposed any Ukrainian attack on Russian soil with Western weapons, including its own, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken nevertheless appeared to open the door on Wednesday to a change in the position of his country.

Ukraine’s allies will “adapt” their aid to guarantee it “success”, he declared at a press conference in Moldova.

According to Ukraine, such a move would allow a deeper strike on the Russian army’s supply lines and military bases from which it daily fires missiles and launches its drones and planes to strike Ukrainian territory.
