the essential
A couple pretended to be insolvent for years by receiving social security benefits. They actually had a fortune estimated at several million euros.

The amount of tax fraud carried out by a Swiss couple is extraordinary. According to the local media Blick, an investigation by the Berne judicial police made it possible to get their hands on erroneous declarations going from 2009 to 2023. Period of time during which this extremely wealthy couple accumulated debts without ever repaying them because they declared themselves without resources.

17 million euros of fraud

Declarations which made them eligible for social minimums and other additional benefits… But the reality was quite different: during the search, the police seized several cars, luxury handbags, fur coats, fine wines, equipment golf and overdrafted well-filled bank accounts. So many elements which made the scenario of the insolvent couple absurd.

The fraud would amount to nearly 17 million euros according to the authorities. The dream life should end for the two suspects, who allegedly hid their fortune in Liechtenstein, and refused to plead guilty.
