Ministers of the Netanyahu government strongly rejected on Friday the decision of the International Court of Justice which ordered Tel Aviv to immediately cease its military offensive in Rafah, a town in the south of the Gaza Strip.

The Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, for his part, demanded that “the occupation of Rafah” be the response to the ICJ’s decision.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that he had begun ministerial consultations by telephone to discuss the Israeli response to the Hague-based court’s decision.

For his part, Itamar Ben-Gvir expressed his rejection of the ICJ’s decision, which he described as “anti-Semitic.”

He declared on that we obtain complete victory in this war.”

Earlier this Friday, the ICJ, the highest court of the United Nations, ordered Israel to stop its military offensive in Rafah.

Tel Aviv must “immediately stop its military offensive, and any other action carried out in the Rafah governorate, which would be likely to inflict on the group of Palestinians in Gaza conditions of existence capable of leading to its physical or partial destruction” ‘, said the ICJ.

The court also called on Israel to keep the Rafah crossing open to allow unimpeded access for humanitarian aid.

Regarding the Israeli hostages, the ICJ “considers it deeply worrying that many of these hostages remain in captivity and reiterates its call for their immediate and unconditional release.”

In its order, the Court ”notes that Israel did not provide sufficient information regarding the safety of the population during the evacuation, or the presence in the Al-Mawasi region of quantities of water, sanitary facilities, food, medicine and shelter necessary for the 800,000 Palestinians who have had to flee to date. Therefore, she believes that Israel has not sufficiently addressed or dispelled concerns about its military offensive in Rafah.”
