Mme Harris told reporters that Mr. Trump was “unfit,” “unstable” and “a danger to our democracy” before an afternoon rally. But she seemed to strike a chord with her Republican rival when she mentioned a report that he was “exhausted.”

“Being president of the United States is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world and we really have to ask ourselves, if he’s exhausted from campaigning, is he fit to do the job? asked Kamala Harris, who has been on the road campaigning since Monday and will not return to Washington until next week.

The attack of Mme Harris steps in as she seeks to sow doubt about her opponent’s health in the final days of the campaign. Donald Trump, at 78, would be the oldest person in the United States to become president if he wins. But he refused to release his medical records or other health details, breaking with decades of tradition in presidential politics.

Mr. Trump, who also campaigned at a breakneck pace, responded later in the day when asked by reporters about Ms.me Harris.

“She’s a loser. She’s not going to any events,” the Republican candidate said a few hours before a rally in Detroit, as he listed his to-do list for the day. He said he was sure Fox & Friends to 7 a.m., that he made two more appearances and then made “about 15 phone calls.”

“I went 48 days without resting. And I have this loser, who doesn’t have the energy of a rabbit,” Mr. Trump argued. “Tell me when you see me take even a little rest. Not only am I not, but I’m not even tired. I’m really euphoric. »

Questions about Donald Trump’s energy level come as he has backed out of some mainstream media interviews, including 60 Minutes and CNBC. He nevertheless appears regularly on friendly cable shows and conservative podcasts, often sitting through hours of interviews each day.

Friday, he spent 40 minutes on set with the hosts of Fox & Friends before joining The Dan Bongino Showa podcast, and recorded an interview with Mark Calaway, the wrestler known as “The Undertaker,” for his podcast Six Feet Under. He also attended an editorial meeting with Fox News and the New York Post before heading out on a multi-stop trip to Michigan.

Yet top Democrats, including Kamala Harris’ top campaign adviser David Plouffe, continue to raise questions about Trump’s energy levels.

“It’s important,” Mr. Plouffe insisted on CNN. “I worked at the White House. It’s the hardest job in the world, and I think it raises real questions. If someone can’t manage the campaign because he’s too exhausted, let him be fit to be president… You just have to watch him every day. »
