Surveillance, kidnapping… an American wins $1.35 billion in the lottery: his family turns against him

A little over a year ago, an American won more than a billion dollars in the lottery. But since then, the winner’s family has been torn apart and ended up in court.

Does money buy happiness? This is the question that this American, who won $1.35 billion in January 2023, must ask himself. More than a year after winning this win, his ex-wife, who is the mother of his child, and his father, turned against him. A family story that ends in court, reports The Daily Beast.

Promises and kidnapping

On January 13, 2023, the life of an American living in Maine was turned upside down. He won $1.35 billion, which represents approximately 1.25 billion euros. The winner then asks his ex-wife to sign a “confidentiality agreement” until their daughter turns 18, that is to say in June 2023. This is the start of the problems that will tear this family apart.

A few months later, the billionaire turned against his former partner, accusing her of not having kept the agreement. Accusations refuted by the suspect, who asserts that the man had informed his father and his stepmother of his winnings.

“I made the mistake of telling my father I won the lottery without having him sign a confidentiality agreement”, he lamented. The lottery winner would have promised many things to his father, but the main interested party says the opposite. “I didn’t tell him what I was doing with my money, how I was going to benefit my daughter”, he indicated. Since then there has been no contact between the two.

With his ex-wife, same thing, things go wrong. She accuses him of having hired a “security team” to follow her when she travels with her daughter or even at work, relates The Parisianclaiming that she also hears noises during her telephone communications.

She also accuses him of kidnapping their child, taking several out of state. On May 10, the man who pocketed more than a billion dollars filed a complaint against her for false declarations.

His life has become hell, despite being the fourth biggest lottery winner in US history.
