She was perhaps the last direct witness to the rise and fall of the Kennedy family. She died this Thursday in Boston. His life was marked by the numerous deaths that occurred in his in-laws.

She had been married for thirteen years to Robert Francis Kennedy when the latter’s brother, JFK, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas on November 22, 1963. A year after the tragedy, in 1964, Robert Kennedy left the presidential office to leave , successfully, to conquer the Senate.

Expected to follow in his brother’s footsteps, he was in turn assassinated in the kitchens of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles after his victory in the Democratic primaries. Ethel Kennedy, pregnant, is by his side as he takes his last breath. She then found herself alone raising her 11 children. During her long life, she will face the death of three of them.

His son Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. is today at the heart of the news. Initially a candidate for the 2024 American presidential election, he finally lined up behind Donald Trump after reaching 4% of voting intentions.
