There will be 1500 of them pounding the streets. Mistresses, cooks and gardeners. Female workers at 35 schools in Birmingham will strike on Tuesday May 14 to protest the lower pay they receive compared to their male peers. A month ago, 500 municipal employees had already walked off the job in Falkirk, Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire, Scotland.

The protest has now reached around twenty local authorities across the country. “Every time we look at a new region, we discover inequalities,” notes Rhea Wolfson, responsible for the file with the GMB union.
