If the presidential election were held this Wednesday, Donald Trump would win only 45% of the votes cast by Republican and independent voters who voted for Nikki Haley in the Republican primaries compared to 36% who would vote for Kamala Harris, according to a Blueprint poll obtained in exclusivity by the Bulwark site. The poll does not take into account Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents who voted for Harris in the Republican primaries.
If data from Blueprint, a Democratic-leaning polling company, reflects reality, that would represent a potential loss of millions of voters for Trump compared to his 2020 crop. The most recent poll New York Times/Sienna College released Monday indicated that 9% of Republican voters intended to vote for the Democratic candidate, a jump of 4 percentage points from mid-September.
When Joe Biden was still in the race for the White House, Trump won 59% of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters who voted for Haley in the primaries.
Commented one of those responsible for the Blueprint poll: “Between 5 and 10% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are Nikki Haley supporters. If Harris can actually win a third or more of them in the general election, that will give her a boost of a few percentage points. In such a tight race, where the margin of victory will be very slim, especially in key states, it is clearly worth paying attention to these voters. »
Haley, it should be remembered, has given her support to Trump, but is largely absent from his campaign. Meanwhile, a group called “Haley Voters for Harris” is preparing to expand its campaign in North Carolina.
