On his X account, President Emmanuel Macron published https://twitter.com/EmmanuelMacron/status/1789203796402503975?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1789203796402503975%7Ctwgr%5E0d76e724c5c985d1cb5f40dff071e19034ee6c38%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bfmtv.com%2Fpolitique%2Fconflit-en-ukraine-emmanuel-macron-espere-qu-on-n-aura-pas-a-partir-en-guerre_AN-202405110216.html in which he answers a series of questions asked by Internet users about Europe. Obviously, the head of state therefore answered questions about the war raging in Ukraine.

For several months, Emmanuel Macron has chosen to adopt much firmer and more threatening rhetoric towards Moscow, affirming that sending Western troops to Ukrainian soil was not excluded. Warnings which did not please Russia, which did not hesitate to respond to the French president. A more decided position compared to that of some of his European counterparts who tried to calm the enthusiasm of Emmanuel Macron.

Macron persists and signs on sending troops to Ukraine: “To rule it out is to fail to learn the lessons of the last two years”

Today, the Head of State recalls “the immense challenge” that this war represents. “Ukraine has been attacked by Russia, and at some point, we have to be able to dissuade Russia from continuing to advance. In Ukraine, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country are at stake. But the rule of law is also at stake, our common rules, and if we let this happen in Ukraine it is the law of the strongest. And we can’t be safe, it’s happening 1,500 kilometers from us”, he explains in the video footage. For Emmanuel Macron, Europe cannot stay outside of this conflict. “All of us Europeans must be ready to act to dissuade them”, he declares.

If the French president wishes to maintain pressure on Moscow, he is nevertheless more nuanced about sending troops to Ukraine. “No, I hope with all my might that we won’t have to go to war”, he specifies. “We must be dissuasive and credible towards our adversaries by telling them ‘if you go too far and threaten my interests, my own security, then I do not rule out intervening’”, adds the president. Before concluding : “France is not a war power but a peace power. But yes, if we want to have peace, we must protect it”.

The French president also details the need for European states to develop strategic autonomy in European security and defense which will allow Europe to face the various threats that surround it and thus guarantee the sovereignty and integrity of European countries. . For Emmanuel Macron, we must create more common capabilities on the military-tactical and technological levels and concerning the defensive industry.
