On Friday, May 3, hospital staff in Independence, Missouri, received an alert from the room in which a woman was awaiting dialysis. She was unresponsive and, although they recovered her pulse, they could only declare her brain dead.

Ronnie Wiggs, her husband, who was present at the hospital, later returned home. On Saturday, the wife died and the husband returned with their son. That’s when hospital staff heard him say, “I did it, I killed her, I strangled her,” according to ABCNews.

Alerted, the police arrested this 75-year-old man, who explained that he had killed his wife because he could no longer pay for the heavy treatment she was undergoing. He said he blocked her nose and mouth to stop her from screaming.

He said he had tried to kill her another time before, when she was in a rehabilitation center and asleep, but she woke up and told him not to do it again. He obviously didn’t listen to her.

Ronnie Wiggs appeared in court Monday on a charge of second-degree murder and his bond was set at $250,000.
