A theft gone wrong?

One of the favorite leads followed by investigators is that of an attempted theft of the tourists’ pick-up which apparently went wrong.

The vehicle was found burned not far from the bodies of the two Australian brothers and the American, surfing enthusiasts, who had last been seen on April 27.

The US Federal Police office in San Diego, southwest California, announced earlier that “three deceased individuals” had “been found in Santo Tomas, Baja California”, without revealing the identities of the victims.

Santo Tomas is located about 45 kilometers southeast of Ensenada, in a region of Mexico marked by drug cartel violence.

On Thursday, authorities in Baja California indicated that three Mexicans had been arrested and were being questioned in connection with these disappearances.
