At least 23 people were killed and 65 others injured on Saturday in Israeli airstrikes on several areas of southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese military sources.

BEIRUT, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — At least 23 people were killed and 65 others injured in Israeli airstrikes on several areas of southern Lebanon on Saturday, according to Lebanese military sources.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the military sources said Israeli warplanes and drones carried out around 90 raids in the afternoon, targeting around 45 villages and towns in southern Lebanon.

The attacks also hit several clinics and civil defense centers, killing 12 people and injuring 15 others, most of whom were doctors, healthcare workers, nurses and firefighters, according to the same sources.

Since October 8, 2023, Hezbollah has exchanged fire with Israel along the Israeli-Lebanese border to show support for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Clashes between Hezbollah and Israel sharply intensified after the latter announced a shift in military focus from the Gaza Strip to the northern front, with the aim of fighting Hezbollah until the safe return of its northern residents.

On Friday evening, Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah’s main headquarters in Dahieh, a southern suburb of Beirut, and killed Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Mr. Nasrallah’s death was also confirmed by Hezbollah.
