Two young children, a brother and sister, were killed on Sunday near Naples in southern Italy when the building in which they lived with their family collapsed, firefighters said.
The two-story building, located in the town of Saviano, collapsed in the morning, authorities said.The firefighters found the father and a newborn baby alive. They unfortunately also found the lifeless bodies of the two other children.“, the firefighters wrote on X.
According to local media, the girl was four years old and her brother was five. Sniffer dogs were on the scene searching the rubble for their mother and another woman, they said. The other missing person is believed to be an elderly woman living on another floor of the building.
A picture posted by firefighters appears to show blown-out walls on the second floor of the building and a large hole in the ceiling on the first floor. The collapse may have been caused by a gas explosion, according to media reports.
