the big parade of Montsinéry canceled

It figured prominently in the program of carnival events in Guyana, the big Montsinéry parade will ultimately not take place on January 25. The mayor of the town, Patrick Lecante cites budgetary reasons.

The first councilor of the commune of Montsinéry-Tonnégrande has made the decision to cancel the big parade scheduled for January 25 at 6 p.m.

This carnival event has been on the shelves since November 2024 but for the mayor of the town, it is appropriate for essentially financial reasons to cancel it:

“We found ourselves at the end of last year with a special law which allows us to have revenue for compulsory expenditure, in particular to ensure the salaries of civil servants. I'm not saying that we shouldn't have a carnival in Guyana but for me, in the context of a rural commune of less than 3,500 inhabitants, spending money that is not certain to do a big parade seems risky to me. . »

And to emphasize that the alert came from the financial department during budget preparation which proposed canceling everything.

Finally, the ceremony of greetings to the gangans planned for the same day will be maintained with entertainment from the carnival group of young people from Montsinéry. The tradition of carnival is preserved but without the big night parade with the presence of ten external groups.

This was a difficult decision but necessary to preserve the municipal budget.
