The leap forward for the Fréjus volleyball club?

At the end of an interminable six-month off-season, the League B championship that Fréjus has frequented since 2018-2019 resumes this weekend. With, for the eastern volleyball players, a delicate trip to northern soil this Saturday evening, where a solid team from awaits them.

A team which, last season, however, had succeeded for Loïc Geiler’s players with a victory in the first leg in Cambrésis before doing it again on the return to the Sainte- hall.

“The team that Loïc Geiler wanted to build”

For this new season, Fréjus Var Volley continues to rely on as many French players as possible with only one foreigner on the squad, in this case the Danish striker Tobias Kjaer. In addition to the Danish international, the Var club signed two experienced players: the passer Cédric Da Silva who played in League A at Saint-Jean d’Illac and the libero Maxime Cheung who arrived from Mende (the club was dissolved).

At the same time, key players have been retained such as Jean-Philippe Sol (captain), Jérôme Clère, Joshua Marty, Corentin Suc… An experienced backbone which will be able to rely, in training as well as for matches, on numerous young players and the residents of the training center.

“I believe this is the team that Loïc Geiler really wanted to build, with new players who integrated quickly”specifies Alexandre Bonnard, president of the FVV. “Tobias Kjaer is a technical player, who jumps a lot, with a big shoulder and a big smashed serve. Cédric Da Silva is an excellent passer, who tries things, who is not afraid of anything and who also serves very well. As for to Maxime Cheung, he loves balls, brings energy to the field and always has a smile.”

This season, preparation was from the start “managed” directly by Loïc Geiler, despite his participation in the Olympic Games as assistant coach of the team. “We had a good preparation, longer than expected with the postponement of the start of the championship”adds Alexandre Bonnard.

“And Loïc was there from the start, unlike the last few seasons. The team played many interesting friendly matches. Now we can’t wait to play at home, in our renovated hall with this covering which will cause a lot fewer injuries . I thank the town hall for this effort. Our stated objective is to qualify for the semi-finals, which we have never achieved. Afterwards, you never know. “
