Volleyball is making a comeback on the courts in Creuse

Was the popularity of volleyball boosted by the gold medal for French volleyball players at the Olympics? Still, in Creuse, three volleyball schools have just opened this school year: in Guéret, Ahun and La Souterraine.

The AEL volleyball section is in the midst of a revival. With a senior mixed team that won second division Ufolep Haute- last season (it finished undefeated) and which moved to the next level, it is the turn of the volleyball school to be reborn.

“It’s been more than twenty years since she disappeared,” notes Alexandre Mariaud, president, coach and player. It is open to young people, girls and boys, between 11 and 18 years old. Classes take place on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fayolle gymnasium.

As its name suggests, at volleyball school you learn to play. “We start with the basic technique, cuff, serve and pass. Attacking will be for later when the first movements are well mastered.” A dozen young people are present and there are still a few places left.

And good news for Creuse volleyball, two other schools have been launched, in Ahun and La Souterraine, which makes it possible to consider holding friendly matches at the end of the season.

In Guéret, 2024 is a good year for gymnastics
