trees cut down by mistake in this seaside town

In its project to redevelop the heart of the city, the City of Pornichet (Loire-Atlantique) is carrying out work on Avenue and Place du 18 Juin. Tuesday January 7, 2025in the parking lot located behind the Tourist Office, a partial felling of plane trees had been planned: of the thirty trees present, about ten was to be removed following a health assessment. Issue : four trees were shot by mistake.

The City requests compensation

Information revealed by Ocean Pressconfirmed by the municipality which returns to the causes of this incident:

A diagnosis had, in fact, revealed the fragility of the most frail subjects, whose development was limited due, in particular, to the absence of planting pits. The objective of this operation was also to encourage the growth of the most vigorous trees.

However, this Tuesday, January 7, the company mandated for this work made an error by felling 4 additional plane trees, although intended to be preserved as part of the redevelopment project.

Application of the tree valuation scale

“Faced with this regrettable situation, the City of Pornichet has decided to apply the tree valuation scale adopted at the last municipal council.”

This scale will make it possible to precisely estimate the value of the 4 felled plane trees as well as the cost of their replacement. On this basis, the City will require compensation from the companyin order to compensate for the damage caused.
