Between a moving return to Scotland, the death of an old character, Claire and Jamie who each came close to death, allowing them to realize to what extent they cannot live without each other, the war that rages, Brianna and Roger separated by centuries, and a shocking theory as a conclusion… This second part of season 7 ofOutlander will not have spared our little hearts. From now on, all eyes are on the sequel, season 8 which will serve as a conclusion to the adventures of Claire and Jamie Fraser, the flagship couple played by Caitrina Balfe and Sam Heughan. This final salvo will have to answer several questions left unanswered in this finale.
What does the dragonfly mean in the final episode of season 7 ofOutlander ?
The final episode of season 7 opens with a dragonfly and two little girls in a field. The explanation is given to us at the end, when Fanny (Frances) explains to Claire that her mother loved dragonflies and that she took her and Jane to look at them. But this dragonfly is not insignificant, since, as Claire confides to the little girl, she also really likes this insect. This refers to the amber in which a dragonfly was fossilized, which she received as a gift after her marriage to Jamie, a stone which was found on the Culloden battlefield near him. It is also a nod to the second volume of the Diana Gabaldon saga, Dragonfly in Amber.
Did Master Raymond really visit Claire or was it a dream?
It is difficult to know if Master Raymond’s visit was real or if it was a dream. As Claire is still confused, this could be an effect of her imagination. After having a brush with death, it is normal for her to be shaken and to think back on significant moments in her life. One argument could, however, make one think that Maître Raymond did indeed visit him: this character discovered in season 2 ofOutlander would in fact be a time traveler, and even the first of all, according to a short story by Diana Gabaldon.
Outlander : Did Faith really survive?
This is THE big question with which this season 7 finale leaves us.Outlander. All the clues gathered by Claire, the first name, the portrait of this young red-haired woman in the medallion, and especially the song that the little girl cannot know, because it is modern music, point towards this possibility. But this raises many questions: how is this possible? Is Master Raymond involved, as his appearance and his apologies to Claire suggest? Diana Gabaldon has not answered the question, at least not yet, although in the novel Go Tell the Bees That I Am GoneClaire is indeed asking herself this question about Faith. But as volume 10 has not yet been published, we do not know in which direction the author will go. If Faith is indeed Jane’s mother, this also means that William slept with his niece. The screenwriters of’Outlander will they dare to go that far?
“There’s a little passage in the ninth volume about this and we decided to take it and expand it, but the starting point comes from the novels, explained the showrunner ofOutlander Matthew B. Roberts. Maybe the tenth book will explain it but, honestly, I have no idea what happens in book 10. You’ll have to watch season 8 to see what happens but, in creating this, we have tried to pull every possible story from the books and stay true to that plot. Over the years, by pulling the threads, a butterfly effect is created. Only the audience will be able to judge, but I think we’ve tied those threads together in a nice bow for Season 8.”
-Will Brianna, Roger and the kids join Claire and Jamie?
After spending part 2 of season 7 almost entirely separated, Roger and Brianna FINALLY found each other again for our greatest pleasure. Reunited in 1739, will the two lovers and their children return to the 20th century, or join Claire and Jamie? They clearly seemed to lean towards the second solution and this is what should happen if we get used to the novels of Diana Gabaldon. In the ninth volume, Brianna, Roger, Jemmy and Mandy do indeed find Claire and Jamie in 1779. A new journey through the stones which could well prove dangerous for the daughter of the Fraser couple since Brianna then suffers from a problem at the heart, a bit like Buck in part 2 of season 7.
What will become of Buck?
Precisely, when we talk about Buck, what does the rest ofOutlander ? This time it is more difficult to answer. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, producer Matthew B. Roberts discussed the character played by Diarmaid Murtagh. “There are sometimes characters from the books who, once you integrate them into the script and they arrive in costumes, they become alive. A bit like Murtagh dying in Culloden in the books. Things can happen,” he declared. In Diana Gabaldon’s novels, Buck is not mentioned in the ninth novel, the latest, and it is not clear what became of him. Matthew B. Roberts having cited Murtagh, who remained alive much longer in fiction than in the literary series, it is not impossible that Buck is still on the program for the eighth season ofOutlander.
Will William and Jamie end up having a real father/son relationship?
This season 7 was complicated for Jamie who, in addition to escaping death, experienced other bad moments. William learned that Jamie was his real father and, although he asked for his help in saving Jane, their relationship was still strained in the finale. William even told Jamie that he would never really consider him his father. This intrigue around their relationship will still be on the program for season 8, assured Matthew B. Roberts. As for Sam Heughan, he told The Hollywood Reporter that the rest of the series will focus largely on this relationship. “It’s a difficult thing for Jamie and William, both to overcome their pride,” confides the actor who realized a dream after the end of the series.
Will Jamie finally forgive John?
As if a strained relationship wasn’t enough, Jamie also gave Lord John Gray a hard time in the second part of season 7. Okay, okay, marrying Claire wasn’t the best idea but John deserved- there such treatment? And above all, what will happen to the relationship between the two men? Also for The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Heughan declared about this relationship: “I think we hope they become friends again but I also think it will take a long time to move past that. Jamie’s going to have to admit what he did wrong, and that’s probably the hardest thing for him.”
