What is the true story behind the series? Whiskey on the Rocks to see on Disney+?
Whiskey on the Rocks is inspired by a true story. On October 27, 1981, on the southern coast of Sweden, a Soviet submarine U137 actually ran aground. 10 km from the town of Karlskrona, the Soviet sailors were surely unaware that their error would lead to a major geopolitical crisis which brought the world very close to the Third World War. The Swedish writer and journalist Jonas Jonasson wrote a novel about this story. He also participated in the script of this original six-episode mini-series for Disney+. Don’t panic, if the events are dramatic as such, the creators have decided to spin the story in the form of political satire. And this could echo some very current elements.
