Mark Carney gives his first interview in the United States: “It’s borderline insulting,” according to Antoine Robitaille

Even if he thinks that he did well, overall, during his interview at the Daily Showcolumnist Antoine Robitaille believes that Mark Carney should have chosen a Canadian media outlet rather than an American television show for his first interview of the year.

Although he has not yet officially confirmed that he will enter the race for leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, it was on the airwaves of Comedy Central that the former governor of the Bank of Canada spoke expressed for the first time on the subject.

“I found it borderline insulting that he was going to do his first major interview in the United States,” says Mr. Robitaille, during the “It’s debated” segment on TVA Nouvelles de midi. We are the 51st state culturally speaking, it’s incredible that he did that.”

“It was an interview that he conducted well overall,” he continues. He was able to make jokes and show his frosty side, but when it came down to it, I just can’t believe he was unable to accept one of the many invitations from the Canadian media . I think it’s a misstep at the start of his campaign.”

Former CAQ MP Joëlle Boutin agrees.

“I think it’s a borderline diplomatic misstep,” she said. Honestly, start with the Canadian media to campaign here and rally people.”

Ms. Boutin also finds it peculiar that politicians and ex-politicians from across the country are increasing their number of interviews in the American media in recent days, whether Justin Trudeau, Doug Ford, Stephen Harper or Mark Carney, in addition to the recent visit of Danielle Smith at Mar-a-Lago.

“I have the impression that every day there is a new politician who goes to do an interview in the United States. I’ve never seen that. It’s still special. There is no single voice right now. It’s every man for himself, we say it every day, we repeat it, but it seems like it continues.”
