Young Meldois on TV! The CHAM choir from Henri-Dunant college in Meaux will represent the Île-de-France region in the new France 3 competition “The best choir in France”, broadcast Friday December 27, 2024 at 9:05 p.m. and presented by Cyril Féraud. This musical event, recorded at the Royal Palace in Kirrwiller in Alsace, will see ten choirsfrom ten different regions, with only one idea in mind, to best highlight their roots and heritage through song.

It was therefore in November 2024 that the students of the college’s CHAM choir took to the road, heading to the Royal Palace in Kirrwiller, the second largest cabaret in France, for the filming of this show. An exceptional experience for these children, from a establishment classified as REP +.

The choir was spotted on social networks of their teacher, Alexia Nasr. In fact, last spring the woman created an Instagram account, Let’s Sing in Choir, where she publishes the exploits of her students.

The latter accepted, from the start of the 6th grade and until the 3rd grade, to participate in the CHAM group (Class with timetables arranged with music). In addition to their courses, they have three hours of choiras well as hours at the city of music for learning a musical instrument.

“In July, the casting manager contacted me because she spotted our choir on Instagram. I got the principle’s agreement from the principal in August and in September, we started rehearsals. We are the only college choir to participate in the show.

A highlight of the CHAM class, in the REP + zone

Alexia Nasr and her students barely had two months to prepare their performances.

The competition takes place in two stages. Each choir presents a first song of 1min30. Seven are then selected for the second round.

The children of Meaux will be judged by a jury of four professionals music or the world of television: Vincent Niclo, Magali Ripoll, Laurent Luyat and Adeline Toniutti. To convince them, Alexia Nasr chose to have her students interpret “ Resists» by France Gall for the first title, and “ One Moment in Time » by Whitney Houston, for the second stage of the competition.

All accompanied by a few “dance” stepswith students moving on stage. “Everything went very well, the students were happy. We are in REP +, for some, this trip to Alsace was a first. For them, it was crazy. And these young people do not always have access to culture. This is a real highlight. I’m so proud of them, as usual,” says the teacher.

This televised competition is therefore a new challenge for the CHAM class at Henri-Dunant college after havingsung during the rugby world cupin 2023, and won the “Coup de coeur” prize during the last edition of the Pays de Meaux Excellence Competition, organized on Saturday September 28, 2024.
