The Canada Post strike, which affects a large part of the country’s postal services, has repercussions in many sectors, and the CHUM Foundation is no exception. Every year, this period is crucial for the organization, particularly because of the influx of donations that occur between November 15 and December 31. However, with the strike, this strategic timing is disrupted, threatening the achievement of the Foundation’s financial objectives.

Campaign co-spokespersons Act faster than the disease from the CHUM Foundation, Claude Meunier and Virginie Coossa, gave us an interview to shed light on the situation.
Claude Meunier emphasized that “ between November 15 and December 31, the Foundation receives approximately a quarter of its annual donations », a figure which represents no less than 600 000 $ in contributions. However, due to the strike, donations sent by mail – which represent 69% of those received during this period – may not arrive on time.

The Strike: a major obstacle for the Foundation
The Canada Post strike directly affects the Foundation’s fundraising. Claude and Virginie insisted on the importance of not underestimating this impact. “ This is a critical time for us », explains Claude Meunier. “ If some of our donors do not receive our solicitations by mail, we risk missing important contributions. »
That said, the Foundation quickly put in place alternative solutions to encourage donors to continue to support its mission, recalling that “ Donations can still be made online, by phone, or by calling the Fondation du CHUM directly for assistance with the online donation process, even if it is the first time. »
A fundraising campaign more essential than ever
The campaign Act faster than the disease of the CHUM Foundation remains more than ever at the heart of its priorities. The objective is ambitious: to collect $200 million by 2028 in order to finance innovative projects and improve care in five major areas of medicine: cancer, immunopathology, cardiometabolic diseases, neuroscience and mental health.

Claude Meunier and Virginie Coossa recall the importance of this campaign, not only to accelerate research, but also to concretely improve the quality of care offered to patients. “ Research, innovation, and the development of effective treatments are crucial issues for the CHUM », specifies Virginie.
Support the CHUM Foundation now
Despite the challenges posed by the Canada Post strike, the CHUM Foundation remains determined to achieve its objectives. Claude and Virginie therefore invite donors to favor online and telephone donation methods, in order to guarantee that the ambitious projects of the campaign Act faster than the disease can come to fruition.
If you would like to contribute to this cause that makes a difference for thousands of patients, it has never been easier to do so. Simply go to the Foundation’s website or contact their services directly to make a donation.
