This plot of the book had to be changed due to the absence of two actors from the series

With a moving return to Scotland, the change of actress of one of the flagship characters of the series, which provoked the anger of fans, or the death of one of the heroes, the writers ofOutlander decided not to spare the spectators. If they have been waiting for the return of the series for a year and a half, part 2 of this season 7 starts strong. Episode 10, uploaded on Saturday November 30 on Netflix in , the day after the American broadcast, opened with the death of Ian, Jenny's husband and Jamie's brother-in-law. And it ended with a shocking announcement: Claire learns that Jamie died at sea, in the sinking of the boat which was to bring him back to America! A devastating announcement, which she initially refuses to believe, before sinking into despair. Is Jamie really dead? You will have to wait for the rest of the episodes to find out, even if the books by Diana Gabaldon, from which the series is adapted, of course give some indication of the story. If Outlander offers a fairly faithful adaptation of the novels, the screenwriters are sometimes obliged to make some changes. This is precisely the case in this second part of season 7.

Outlander season 7, part 2: this passage from Diana Gabaldon's books which was changed for the series

Part 2 of season 7Outlander opened with the return of Jamie, Claire and their nephew Ian to Scotland, to Lallybroch, after many years of absence. If they are upset when they realize that Ian senior is about to die, Claire must return to America urgently. She receives a letter from John Gray asking for her help in treating his nephew, Henry, who is seriously injured. Claire is his last hope and the doctor answers her call, she returns to Philadelphia, leaving Jamie at Ian's bedside. It was this plot point that was changed for the purposes of the series. In the seventh book of the saga, An Echo in the Bone (The Echo of Distant Heartsin French), while they have just returned to Scotland, Claire must return to America. But it's not to treat John Grey's nephew. She receives a letter from Marsali asking him to come and care for his son, Henri-Christian, who is seriously ill. If Claire is of course determined to go back to care for the man she considers to be her grandson, she uses this pretext to force Laoghaire to finally marry her companion and accept that her daughter Joan enters the orders. Claire saves the life of little Henri-Christian, then also saves John's nephew.

Outlander season 7, part 2: this plot was changed due to the absence of Marsali and Fergus

If Claire does not return to America to save Marsali and Fergus' son, in season 7 ofOutlander, this is because these two characters have disappeared from the plots for the moment. During season 6, the couple left Fraser's Ridge, after the birth of their son with dwarfism, and settled in New Bern where Claire and Jamie's adopted son opened a printing shop. Marsali and Fergus therefore do not appear in season 7 of the series. On the other hand, good news for fans, actors Lauren Lyle and César Domboy, seen recently in the series Worship on Prime Video, will indeed be back for the final season 8 ofOutlander. “We both feel very connected to our characters, and especially to the fans. We feel like we grew up with them,” confided Lauren Lyle before the announcement of this return. The actress and César Domboy will therefore share new scenes, such as this sequence during the wedding of Roger and Brianna, which required an entire night of filming to even appear “Half a second on screen!”.

Outlander : this important scene from the novels which had to be modified in the series

This is not the first time thatOutlander makes changes from Diana Gabaldon's novels. In season 4, an important scene between Brianna and Jenny could not take place and had to be completely modified, due to the absence of actress Laura Donnelly. Rather than doing without Jenny for part 2 of season 7, the production this time chose to replace the actress, to the great dismay of fans. As for season 8 ofOutlander, which will mark the farewell of the series, it had to be written without any novel on which to rely since the last volume of the saga of Diana Gabaldon is still not finished. The end of the series Outlander will therefore not be the same as that imagined by the author, a similar case in the end of Game of Thrones.
