Number 2 on the Netflix top currently, this science fiction series seems to have won the hearts of subscribers. Quite a revenge for this American fiction which nevertheless received a (very) bad rating.
Who says start of the month, says avalanche of new products on Netflix ! Among the twenty films and series added to the catalog on December 1 was La Brea. If the science fiction series has three seasons, the streaming platform has only put the first ten episodes online. Worn by Natalie Zea (Justified) and Eoin Macken (Night Shift), American fiction takes us to Los Angeles, where a huge sinkhole has dragged hundreds of people to another dimension. A mother and son find themselves immersed in a primitive world populated by dinosaurs and must find the rest of their family.
La Brea : the science fiction series is enjoying a second life on Netflix despite disastrous reviews
Just two days after its release on Netflix, La Brea has already established itself among the most viewed programs in France. Number 2 of the top, behind the thriller The MadnessAmerican fiction has easily surpassed the new seasons of The Empress andArcane. A real success for the science fiction series to which spectators nevertheless gave the low rating of 42% on the American site Rotten Tomatoes. Criticized from all sides, La Brea had suffered the wrath of the English-speaking press when it was released. The JoBlo’s Movie Network site estimated that “the special effects were bad, the characters clichéd and the dialogue tedious.” The British daily Daily Telegraph for his part commented: “If you like cheesy dialogue and characters who have to flee a CGI saber-toothed tiger after falling into a giant chasm that is a portal to a prehistoric dimension, then this is the series for you.” American media The Hollywood Reporter also did not hold back when declaring that the series seemed “too average to make any impression.”
La Brea canceled: no season 4 for the series which is a hit on Netflix
Two years after its launch, the American channel NBC announced that the series would not return for a season 4. Unlike the first two bursts which had ten and fourteen episodes respectively, the third and final chapter had only six. If the American channel has never revealed the reasons behind the cancellation of La Breaeverything suggests that low audiences and high production costs have something to do with it. It must be said that the science fiction series attracted more than 6 million viewers, before seeing its audiences decline over the weeks.
