This may be the bad idea of the moment: launching a “Desperate Housewives” prequel series. In any case, this is the concept that drives Marc Cherry, creator of the original series broadcast from 2004 to 2012 on ABC.
More than twelve years after the last episode of the eighth season, Cherry reveals that she already has “some ideas for making a prequel set in the 1960s” in an interview with “People” magazine.
What appeals to Marc Cherry, in this idea of a well-worn and rehashed prequel, in recent years: “Because the character that I miss the most while writing is in fact Wisteria Lane,” he admits. This street in the fictional town of Fairview was indeed at the center of the story. “It was the most fun anyone had ever had in the history of television, because we owned the whole street.”
If the action of this new series would take place in the past, there is little chance that Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross will make a return. The latter would, on the other hand, be up for a sequel. Or more simply for an anniversary episode, “Desperate Housewives” celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. But time is running out, since the end of 2024 is approaching.
