This Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Yann Barthès hosted a new episode of Quotidien.
That evening, the host received Dominique Seux, famous economic journalist from France Inter radio, to comment on French but also world news.
Evoking both the election of Donald Trump and the budget proposed by Michel Barnier, the expert answered the questions of the journalist, who was trying to understand how France could have reached such debt rates. “I will give you some information: this evening, the rates that the French State borrows for a 10-year maturity are two tenths of the Greek rates,” begins by explaining the specialist.
Yann Barthès does not understand much of his guest's explanations
An alarming observation: “That never happened, we exceeded the Spanish and Portuguese rates. We are at the level of Greek rates this evening”confides Dominique Seux, in front of the wide open eyes of Yann Barthès: “What does that mean?” then says the journalist, who obviously does not understand everything. “It costs a little more. But rates have fallen, but we are not benefiting from this drop in rates,” explains the journalist specializing in economics.
But here again, Yann Barthès is dropped: “Why did they go down?”he asks. “Why have they gone down? Because the period of inflation is almost over.”
“As soon as I don’t understand I’ll tell you”
Faced with so many ideas and many unknowns, Yann Barthès admits: “I ask questions because I don’t understand. So as soon as I don’t understand I’ll tell you”he says to the laughter of the audience. To which Dominique Seux responds: “Don’t keep me too long because in the end you will see that I don’t understand what I’m saying,” he says with a laugh.
But the economic journalist's explanations allowed both viewers and Yann Barthès to better understand the reasons for the economic crisis that France is going through. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to explore these concepts in greater depth!
But he will still be able to listen to the economic chronicles of Dominique Seux, present on the France Inter morning show every morning.
