Budget 2025: France must find 60 billion euros
Michel Barnier remains straight in his boots. Despite the growing threat of censorship in the National Assembly where the National Rally poses as kingmaker, the Prime Minister defended this Tuesday evening on TF1 the budget currently under study in the hemicycle. “Why do you want me to resign?“, launched the host of Matignon, before assuming the use”probable” of 49-3 to achieve his goals.
“I'm making this budget, it's not perfect, we're improving it“, estimated Michel Barnier. Before adding: “The French tell me: good luck, hold on. Meanwhile, in Paris, in microcosm, people are making short sentences. They would do better to devote their energy to the French rather than worrying about their future.”
“Everyone knows the rules of the game”
“There is no vice, there is a debate which is difficult“, added the Prime Minister. Before assuming a future passage in force: “I accepted that the deputies debated until the end, I did not do 49.3 straight away, to cut off the discussion. The text is in the Senate, then there is a joint committee then a vote probably with a 49.3. Certainly even, because there is no majority.”
What about the risk of sanction from the opposition? “I have known since day one that there can be censorship, that if there is an alliance of Mr Mélenchon to the votes of Marine Le Pen and the votes of the PS and the Greens, the government falls“, recognizes Michel Barnier. And the latter warns of the urgency of the situation: “We are expected by the financial markets which finance our debt. (…) A debt this large, if it continues to increase, everyone pays.”
