casting, plot, release date… What we already know

The first season of the American-French-Japanese series “Les Gouttes de Dieu” from Apple + received the award for best drama series at the International Emmy Awards this Monday. Here's what we already know about season 2.

A great vintage. Launched on Apple TV+ in 2023, before making a appearance on 2, the series “Les Gouttes de Dieu” won the prize for best drama series this Monday at the 52nd International Emmy Awards ceremony.

Adapted from the successful Japanese manga by Tadashi Agi (published in France from 2008 by Éditions Glénat), the first season of “Drops of God” television series version was created by Quoc Dang Tran (“Marianne”, “Parallels”) and immerses viewers in the world of oenology.

The story follows Camille, a young Parisian whose father is a famous oenologist and author of a renowned wine guide. When the latter dies in Japan, the young woman goes to Tokyo to read the will. She discovers that to inherit from her father, she must face a particularly tough taste test. If she fails, it is her father's young protégé, Issei Tomine, who will be designated heir.

“It’s a series that talks about family, bonds, the search for identity, in the world of wine (…) which is a world in its own right,” confided actress Fleur Geffrier, who plays Camille, to AFP. “And all that mixed with two countries that intermingle very well, Japan and France, with several languages. It’s about life, ultimately,” she added.

The heroes face an almost impossible challenge

Apple TV+ officially ordered season 2 of “Drops of God” last May, a year after the premiere was broadcast on its platform.

She will see Camille (Fleur Geffrier) and Issei (Tomohisa Yamashita) return. The two will “once again be faced with an almost impossible challenge: discovering the origin of the most wonderful wine in the world, a secret that even Alexandre Léger has not managed to unlock. Through a series of trials and tests, their quest will take them to the farthest corners of the world, force them to confront their inner demons and change them forever.”

The new episodes will be helmed by Season 1 director Oded Ruskin, who also directed “No Man's Land” and “Absentia.” The broadcast date has not yet been announced at the time of writing.
