Get out the tissues! This Tuesday, November 26, at 9:10 p.m., France 3 is rebroadcasting an episode ofAlex Hugo – titled The untamed (our opinion) – a little special since it is the one in which curator Christine Dorval, immortalized by Maryline Canto, bows out. After the announcement of the departure of Lionnel Astier, alias Angelo Batalla, his historical partner in the series, Samuel Le Bihan took advantage of his visit to Séries Mania in 2023 to share his reaction with us.
“The authors could not imagine a real departure“: Samuel Le Bihan explains why the final scene of Marilyne Canto (Dorval) risks disappointing Alex Hugo fans
To those who, at first, would be surprised that the departure of the commissioner took place without a farewell scene, he begins by responding in complete transparency: “Quite simply because we couldn’t write it. Maryline announced to us her desire to leave the series even though the episode – the structure of which was finalized well in advance – was already written. The authors could not imagine a real departure, they just created a scene between Renart (Mikaël Fitoussi) and Dorval (Maryline Canto), in which things are said. Lionnel warned us almost two years agocontinues Samuel Le Bihan, which even allowed the writers to slip in a few clues well before its last episode. In The Winter Girlfor example, he had a discussion with Leblanc (Fabien Baïardi) where he said: “you know, I won’t always be there…”
Alex Hugo : Is a return of Maryline Canto possible?
As for whether Maryline Canto could come back to officially greet her men, for the one who embodies Alex Hugo since 2014 nothing is impossible: “Why not since his character decides to leave the police because it no longer corresponds to his values, nor to his desire to fight. What’s interesting is that she’s not far away, she sticks around. We could write an episode in which she intervenes in another way. Since its launch, this series has been the result of ongoing reflection.” And continued: “I really liked my scenes with Maryline. Alongside Lionnel Astier who was like a father covering up his son’s bullshit, she represented a sort of maternal figure for Alex. She represented the rule. We had a lot of shouting scenes and I loved it! Not only because it’s an actor’s pleasure, but also for the goodwill that it induces: someone yells at you, that means they’re looking at you. It’s reassuring. Alex can be all the more free because there are characters who frame him and watch over him.”
