In Cat’s Eyesthe TF1 series, Constance Labbé, Camille Lou and Claire Romain, the interpreters of Sylia, Tam and Alexia, were in action to play art thieves.
The strength of Cat’s Eyesthe adaptation of the eponymous Japanese manga by Tsukasa Hōjō, broadcast from this Monday, November 11 on TF1, the action and fight scenes directed by Sylia (Constance Labbé), Tam (Camille Lou) and Alexia (Claire Romain) . Before filming, the three actresses benefited from physical preparation with different professionals depending on the specificities linked to the characters (Parkour, climbing, aikido, etc.). Simon Nogueira, Freerunning champion, who was one of the masked flame bearers of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, notably trained them for the trips on the roofs of Paris; Lilou Ruel, women's Parkour world champion, and Williams Belle, one of the founders of the Yamakasi, were also among their coaches before and during filming.
Cat’s Eyes : The actors performed three quarters of the action scenes
“Camille Lou, who already had her own coach, was very physically fit and Constance Labbé and Claire Romain have a good sporting base. The idea was to have them perform as many stunts as possible. Three quarters of the action scenes were done with our actors” explains Alexandre Cauderlier, stunt coordinator. The only limit for their execution? “We obviously had to comply with insurance, but carrying out three quarters of the actions is already enormous. That's why we trained them so that they were comfortable in most of the actions.” The series therefore required much greater insurance than a classic series. And the actors were doubled for the most dangerous scenes. “When Tam is on the balance beam, it’s Chloé Henry, my understudy, a former gymnast who won Ninja Warriors. For insurance reasons, I was not allowed to do so. If it was the last day and the last sequence, I could have but here, I couldn't because we shot in the first weeks but I would have loved to do it even if it scared me very much.” indicates Camille Lou.
Cat’s Eyes : Fight scenes not “too perfect”
The Cauderlier team also imagined the choreography of the fights. “During filming, we adapted the fight scenes because they were too perfect. As the Chamade sisters start and progress gradually, Alexandre Laurent wanted more approximation in their movementssays Alexandre Cauderlier. In the manga, there are some pretty surreal things. We tried to find the right balance between reality and extraordinary. In the series, the actresses don't steal like in Matrix but an installation with cables allowed us to make ejections and flights with a good amplitude for a visual result with a “wow” effect.
