End of the Arcane series on Netflix

The Arcane series, based on the universe of the famous video game League of Legends, has officially ended after two seasons broadcast on Netflix. Despite its immense popularity and persistent rumors of a five-season plan, it's important to clarify that no, a third season was never planned.

Rumors about a third season denied

Despite reports to the contrary, an Arcane season 3 was never in the works. League of Legends creator Marc Merrill recently cleared up any confusion on Reddit, explaining that internal discussions about a budget to “approve 5 seasons” had nothing to do with the creativity of the Arcane team. “The priority must always be for Riot and our teams to create something great”he wrote.

New projects in development

Marc Merrill also said that the team always envisioned telling more stories and continuing to expand the League of Legends universe. Christian Linke, co-creator of Arcane, shared this vision, telling Collider that they were looking to other regions of Runeterra for the next story to tell. “Yes, we are currently developing a series of follow-up projects,” he revealed.

If the two main creatives are reluctant to reveal what is in store at the moment, they nevertheless hinted that the new stories would move away from those established in Arcane. This doesn't mean Arcane spin-offs are impossible, but it's likely that upcoming projects from Riot Games and Fortiche will explore different champions and regions in the League of Legends universe.
