This Saturday, November 16, Netflix unveils Act 2 of the second season of its successful series, Arcane. Adapted from the video game League of Legendsthe scenario has experienced many upheavals, as the team of the series explains.

This is the international event that shook Netflix at the beginning of November: the streaming platform revealed the first episodes of season 2 of the series Arcane. From the world of video games League of Legendsthis animated gem is a co-production between Riot Games, the game’s publishing company, and Fortiche Production, a French animation studio which has been working on the franchise for almost ten years. And while the season was a hit with the general public, ranking number 1 in 85 countries, and with critics, receiving no less than four Emmy Awards, its return was expected. Comment Arcane was it revamped to become a two-season project on Netflix?

If the French teams from Fortiche Production were present, it was screenwriter Amanda Overton who deciphered how Arcane had gone from a project planned for a single season to a series of two salvos: “We had so many ideas but you can’t put everything into a series. For example, in season 1, we wrote the entire end of the first season so that it was the end of the series. During production, Fortiche and the rest of the teams decided that it would be really cool to be able to extend the series and tell the story in two seasons. she explained. And to add: “So what we were able to do in season 2 was take what should have been just one episode and turn it into an entire season. So we were able to delve deeper into some parts of the world that we only had a glimpse of in season 1.

Arcane : scenes planned for season 1 were kept for season 2 of the series League of Legends

This change required a lot of agility but with some pleasant surprises, as Amanda Overton confided: “What’s great is that one of the scenes we wrote in 2018 to conclude season 1, when we thought it should be the only one, was finally produced exactly as we had imagined it but for conclude season 2. It shows that we always knew where we were going and where we wanted the characters to end up. We can’t wait for you to discover it.
